Artist’s Statement
“Odysseus made his journeys and then Homer wrote about them. To discover and reveal – that is the way every artist sets about her business. All art is, I suppose, is a kind of exploring.” – documentary film maker, Robert J. Flaherty, 1949
My art is inspired by my reverence for the intricacies and beauty of nature as I continually seek the sacred in the everyday.
My creative process is driven by curiosity. Whether I am focused on a medium or a theme, I always start with exploration that typically leads me deeper and deeper into my subject; delving into the history, anthropology, geography, or geology. I paint, I collage, I make visual and travel journals, I work with textiles. I push until I find an elemental way of expressing what I am experiencing.
My work is an artifact of my love of ceaseless discovery and reflects unexpected elements juxtaposed delightfully.
